AMSC’s ship protection, propulsion, and power management solutions are designed to help fleets increase system efficiencies, enhance power quality and boost reliability and security. AMSC’s systems have been employed in multiple naval applications where they have demonstrated the ability to enhance mission capability, improve operational efficiency and minimize task execution times.
Degaussing systems are utilized in most naval ships to cloak their magnetic signature, thereby making them much more difficult to be “seen” by magnetic sensors and magnetically activated mines. Conventional degaussing systems require tens of tons of copper wire to generate a cloaking signature big enough to hide a navy warship. Conventional systems also consume large amounts of valuable ship resource in the way of power and space. Employing AMSC’s proprietary superconductor systems enables AMSC to provide identical signature masking while dramatically reducing system weight and preserving the limited ship resources for other critical missions.
The same technology has been employed in large scale naval applications such as propulsion motors and power generators. The intrinsic compact, efficient and power dense nature of AMSC’s technology results in the ability to generate far more power aboard existing naval platforms and creates mission enhancing capabilities for next generation naval combatants.
