AMSC’s D-VAR VVO® is a 15 kV distribution class shunt compensation solution, featuring fast and precise volt/VAR compensation and reactive power control that exceeds utility standards. This system is user-friendly, with autonomous operation, or dispatched control modes, and needs little to no maintenance. Importantly, utility providers can easily install the D-VAR VVO® along an existing feeder or in a substation for better, faster power. Upon start-up, due to the very high VAR inrush characteristic (5-7x the motor rating), larger motors can cause substantial utility power quality issues and disruptive voltage sags, even with reduced voltage starting methods. However, D-VAR VVO® has the solution. This technology provides a fast reactive power response and precision control needed to fix these issues.
