NWL (Nothelfer Winding Laboratories), one of the largest independent suppliers of transformers and power supplies is founded

1973

Neeltran, a designer and manufacture of leading power conversion products is established

1987

AMSC, a pioneer in the grid industry is founded

1991

AMSC’s IPO

Comtrafo, a distribution and power transformer producer is established in Brazil

1995

NEPSI, leading supplier of medium-voltage metal enclosed capacitor banks and harmonic filter banks is established in New York state

Windtec established in Völkermarkt, Austria, as a family-owned company dedicated to the  development of wind turbines and wind turbine components.

2006

World’s first installed commercial scale underground superconductor system powering thousands of homes and businesses in Ohio, USA.

2007

Acquired Windtec a leader in the engineering of wind turbines pushing the boundaries of innovation and contributing to the growth of renewable energy industry worldwide.

2008

Energized the world’s longest and most powerful superconductor cable in Long Island power grid, New York; Powering 300,000 U.S. homes and reducing the volume of conventional copper cables by 98%

World’s first Ship Protection System successfully tested on multiple ships after three years of operation at sea

Penetrated India and South Korea wind markets

2009

Announced successful testing of a 36.5 MW superconductor ship propulsion motor with Northrop Grumman, most powerful motor tested by US Navy with 50% size & weight reduction

2010

Named one of the world’s 50 most innovative companies

Received its largest grid interconnection system order from Vestas for Australia’s largest wind farm

Nearly 10% of the world’s wind-generated electricity is powered by AMSC

AMSC introduced Amperium wire, a second-generation high temperature superconductor wire 

2012

Acquired Infinia Technology Corporation, allowing AMSC to obtain cryocooling technology and deliver greater value to its customers, business partners and shareholders

Launched Volt VAR Optimization Solution (DVAR-VVO) for Power Distribution Market 

2018

United Power selected AMSC’s D-VAR VVO™ for voltage optimization

ComEd installed AMSC’s Resilient Electric Grid system in Chicago
